When you ask a question, Patina pulls fresh context from your connected apps. Cloud feed updates check for something useful every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to midnight in your local time zone, including while your Mac sleeps.
Features that read data directly from your Mac and local automations still need it to be awake. Local context uploaded to the feed expires after 48 hours; opening Patina on the device with your files refreshes it.
The iOS app is a companion to the Mac app. It gives you quick access to your Patina on the go, whether you're asking a question, logging a thought, or checking your morning briefing.
Your files sync through your private iCloud. The iPhone app can use Patina AI and cloud feed updates directly. For features that need your Mac, it connects through Tailscale, a private network between your devices.
Setup takes about a minute: install Tailscale on both devices, sign in with the same account, and Patina finds your Mac automatically.
Your files, messages, and journal live on your own devices and sync through your private iCloud. Cloud feed updates use an encrypted copy of selected context, including calendar events, tasks, and file excerpts. Local context expires after 48 hours, and cloud feed cards are retained for 30 days. When Patina needs to think, it sends only the context required for the task to the AI provider for your plan or selected runtime, such as Google Gemini for Patina AI, Anthropic or OpenAI for your own provider account, or OpenRouter if you configure it. Those providers do not use API inputs or outputs to train their models by default; requests may be retained briefly for abuse monitoring.
